If someone takes the time to follow your business on Twitter, it makes sense that you follow them back.

It’s a tried and tested formula that works.

4. Become an authority in your industry 

Another great method of building your brand on Twitter and boosting your follower count as a result is to become an authority figure in your industry. Posting relevant news and content that relates to your business and your customers’ needs makes sense – and if you’re a local business, it’s the perfect chance to connect with other entrepreneurs and local causes to build your name.

If you’re running a cake shop and you’re attending an event to sell your products, use Twitter to hype the event and post news and information that will appeal to attendees. Becoming an authority figure will encourage people to follow you for news and information, and some with eventually consider purchasing your products.

  3. There are many super basic rules to Twitter that people fail to grasp everyday. Here are a few:

    Write a great bio and include a hashtag.
    Be yourself and tweet funny thoughts along with clever niche related tips
    Use Hootesuite and schedule Tweets in advance
    Don’t use a fiverr service, or a bot to add more followers
    Reply/comment to those in your industry
    Always be positive and supportive
